What Is Internet Marketing? What Can It Do?

Internet marketing isn’t hard to understand. As the name implies, it’s making use of the Internet to market a business, product, and/or service. However, many small businesses have trouble “getting” what Internet marketing does, mainly because it has many faces.

Internet marketing breaks down into various forms — essentially, it’s an umbrella term. Inbound marketing, as it’s sometimes called, is a marketing strategy that makes use of multiple tactics to create a campaign that’s greater than the sum of its parts.

To help give you a better understanding of what Internet marketing really is and what it really does, here are just a few of its most common (and important) elements.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
SEO involves optimizing a website so that its search engine ranking increases. As 60% of all organic traffic goes to the top three organic search results, the idea is that by improving a site’s ranking, it will get more traffic, and in turn, more leads. Essentially, it’s a numbers game, and it’s one that wins. Half (50%) of all mobile searches are conducted in the hopes of finding local results. Of those searches, 61% — more than three out of five — result in a purchase.

Web Design
Nowadays, most people look for goods and services online, not in the phone book. This means that your website is going to make the first impression with the majority of your potential customers. You may not think that this is all that big of a deal, but almost half (46%) of people say that a website’s design is the first and foremost important criterion when determining the credibility of a company. If you don’t have experienced website developers help you build your site, odds are it’s not going to impress people as it should.

Blogging
Blogging is another effective tactic, believe it or not. Research shows that more than four out of five (82%) of marketers who blog daily acquired a customer using their blog. At the same time, more than half (57%) of marketers who blog monthly also used their blog to acquire new customers.
